Global Tasting Initialtive

I’m not sure when this began but about three months ago I came across Snooth.com‘s Global Tasting Initiative (GTI). My interest in learning more about wine had been growing steadily these past few years and when I came across this, it was the perfect excuse to try tasting some wines that I would not normaly buy. I love red wines but the GTI selection that month was Pinot Griggio. I knew next to nothing about this varietal and thought it would be a great way to take a leap forward with my goal (of greater wine knowledge). I picked up a couple bottles, a rather ordinary one from Italy and another very interesting one from Alsace. It was such a pleasant experience – to learn about the diffeerent styles and characteristics as well as drinking some very nice wine. I didn’t even know that Pinot Griggio and Pinot Gris were the same thing.

This month Snooth is focusing the GTI on Tempranillo. Earlier today I bought a 2007 El Coto Rioja Crianza as my first bottle of Tempranillo. The idea of the GTI is to try two different bottles during the month. Buying this Rioja peaked my curiosity on Rioja Wines so I wrote a little article on the region. I’ll do a review on the El Coto next week.

If you do head over to try the GTI, let me know what you had and we can compare notes.
